What is Parent Coaching?
Parenting Coaches are Life Coaches who teach people how to use coaching skills — positive and empowering ways to bring out the best in someone — in their day-to-day lives as parents. They teach parents how to coach themselves and bring out their best in the midst of parenting situations. Parent Coaches also teach parents how to coach their children. This allows parents to empower their children, and also gives parents many positive tools they can use at any time.
Last, and most importantly, Parent Coaches teach parents how to use their own values, beliefs, and ideas as the foundation for all that they do and say as parents. Parent Coaches give parents a guide to follow in their own parenting, allowing them to share important life lessons on a daily basis, and giving them a great deal of confidence and satisfaction in their parenting.
Coaching is a partnership.
Coaching is an ongoing alliance between client and Coach for the purpose of creating positive changes in all aspects of the client's life. Together, you and your Coach work to identify your goals and establish a plan for achieving them. The coaching alliance is an equal partnership that provides support, structure, and accountability. It empowers you to explore and act on the changes you choose to make in order to create the life you really want.
As your Coach, Karen will:
- Listen fully and accept you without judgment.
-
- Assist you to discover your personal
- power.
- Honor your strengths and your
- ability to find answers within yourself.
- Challenge you to step outside of your
- comfort zone.
- Hold you accountable for the actions
- you choose to take in order to move forward.
- Keep you focused on your agenda.
Coaching is convenient and confidential.
Karen coaches over the telephone, so you can speak with her from the comfort of your home or office. (About 70% of coaching is typically conducted by telephone.) She offers individual and group coaching. She also conducts workshops and seminars. She likes to know how you’re doing, so she provides telephone and e-mail support between sessions. As a professional Coach she subscribes to the International Coach Federation Code of Ethics. She does not share what you talk about without your permission, so you can feel free to speak with her about anything.
Coaching is not therapy. - As a Coach, Karen believes that you are creative, resourceful and whole. She works with you on goals that you choose. Coaching focuses on the future and is action oriented. She holds you accountable for doing the work to achieve the results you desire. The objective of coaching is to assist you to move beyond where you are now to a new level of excellence, fulfillment, and success as you define it.
In contrast, therapy is based on a medical model of treating illness. Treatment goals are established by the therapist. Therapy often focuses on the client’s past in order to resolve his or her present issues. The objective of therapy is to move the client from a state of dysfunction toward a state of adequate functioning.
In most cases, coaching complements therapy by focusing on the client's strengths and goals.
